Lucky Chinese Lantern – Fushou

It represents the Chinese character 福 (fú), which means “happiness”, “luck”, or “good fortune”. It is associated with the color red, which is also a lucky color.In Chinese superstition, 福, fu, refers to one of the three divine stars.

These three stars, Lu (祿), Fu (福), and Shou (寿), are three very important deities in China. These stars are respectively the god of prosperity (Lu), the god of happiness (Fu), and the god of longevity( Shou). They are also often represented as three old men.

Fu is thus the spirit of happiness, who brings luck to those who worship him. It is also common to write the character 福 backwards, because, by homonymy “happiness backwards” would remind “happiness happens” in Chinese.
